Next month, the new Godzilla #1 from writer Tim Seeley and artist Nikola Čižmešija along with colorist Francesco Segala arrives on July 23rd, which also happens to be the same week as SDCC. The new series marks the start of a new shared universe line of comic book titles from IDW known as the “Kai-Sei Era.” Today is FOC for retailers and the publisher has released a full lettered preview for Godzilla #1.
As IDW editor Jake Williams discussed in our interview, the Kai-Sei Era will feature a new design for the King of the Monsters which he described as “mean” and “animalistic” and featuring a distinct jaw line “almost akin to Thanos.”

In 1954, experimentation with a mysterious energy source known as Kai-Sei awakened Godzilla and a host of immortal kaiju.
