Walmart reveals company shifts as it names John Furner as President and Chief Executive Officer of Walmart, Inc. Along with the position change, Furner will also join the company’s board of directors.
Starting as an hourly associate in 1993, Furner has since advanced within the company, holding leadership roles across merchandising, operations, and sourcing. Now, he will serve as the President and CEO of Walmart U.S., with his new position effective Feb. 1, 2026. Furner will succeed Doug McMillon, who will retire from the company on Jan. 31, 2026
For a smooth transition process, Walmart will have McMillon on the Board of Directors until the next annual shareholders’ meeting in June. Additionally, McMillon will act as an advisor to Furner throughout FY2027. The company will release an announcement on Furner’s successor as CEO of Walmart U.S. before the end of FY2026.
