Smart Toys and Games is expanding its portfolio with the acquisition of the Recent Toys International Group, bringing the Amsterdam-based brainteaser company into the Smart family.
Founded in 2001 by Guido Lap, Recent Toys has built a reputation for hands-on puzzles and mechanical brainteasers designed to challenge players of all ages and skill levels. Its catalog includes a wide range of puzzles created in collaboration with leading designers, including Meffert’s, Oskar Van Deventer, Constantin, Andrea Mainini, Gabriel Songel, and Vladimir Krasnoukhov.
“I am delighted to announce that we are joining the Smart family,” says Guido Lap. “We have shared common goals and values, and it is a natural fit in terms of expanding the worldwide potential of the brainteaser category. With our combined brands, products, and most importantly, design potential, I can only see huge potential for the future.”
The addition of Recent Toys continues Smart’s acquisition streak, following recent additions such as The Happy Puzzle Company, All Jigsaw Puzzles, Wow Toys, Inside3, and Word United.
“For a while, we wanted a branded line of Mechanical Brainteasers and Twisty Puzzles next to our successful SmartGames brand … and with Recent Toys, we now have that solid base into this new world,” says SMART Global CEO Rolf Vandoren. “With both our creative teams as well as the product development and engineering teams already in place, we feel having a lot of innovation to bring to the market for years to come.”
The company says the move strengthens the group’s innovation pipeline and global reach as the company looks toward continued growth this year.
Smart Toys & Games will show its new products in Booth 1551 at Toy Fair New York, taking place February 14-17, 2026, at the Javits Center.
