The LEGO Group is broadening its reach in the United States with a $366 million investment into a regional distribution center (RDC) in Prince George County, Virginia. Construction on the 2,000,000-square-foot RDC begins later this year, with projected operation by 2027.
The RDC will join the LEGO Group’s growing presence in Virginia, as its future factory in Greater Richmond is expected to open by 2027. This move from The LEGO Group demonstrates its dedication to supply strategy and sourcing, with both factories and distribution centers situated in major markets.
“The regional distribution center will bring greater flexibility to our network, ensuring we are well-positioned to support long-term growth in the Americas,” says Carsten Rasmussen, COO of The LEGO Group. “Together with our future Virginia factory, the RDC will shorten our supply chain in the region, reducing lead times for our customers as well as our environmental impact. We are grateful for the continued support from the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
The LEGO Group’s Virginia factory will improve supply chain performance within the States and create more than 1,700 jobs within the LEGO Group, boosting the local economy. The LEGO Group also maintains an RDC in Fort Worth, Texas, that employs 305 people.
The LEGO Group is also prioritizing international development, as demonstrated by the recent opening of its new factory in Binh Duong, Vietnam, and the expansion of already existing factories in Nyíregyháza, Hungary; Jiaxing, China; and Monterrey, Mexico. The 2027 Virginia RDC will join the recently opened RDC in Belgium and the RDC in Vietnam, slated to open later this year.
