WildBrain and Cloudco have some “berry,” “beary” exciting news to share!
The 1980s made a comeback this year, and TV is no exception. Very soon, iconic children’s television series Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake will collide onscreen for a new strawberry-sweet, caring and sharing adventure. The Care Bear Berry Switch (Working Title) is a 44-minute animated preschool special co-developed by WildBrain, the company behind Strawberry Shortcake, and Cloudco, which produces Care Bears. Complete with colorful 1980s animation and nostalgic references to the original series, this “retro-forward” production is sure to capture the hearts of both young kids and kids-at-heart.
In The Care Bear Berry Switch, the sugary-sweet worlds of Care-A-Lot and Strawberryland combine. When Strawberry Shortcake and Cheer Bear wish upon the same star, they accidentally open a magical portal to each other’s worlds. Strawberry and Cheer Bear switch places, leading to lots of laughs, blossoming friendships, and exciting new adventures. Trouble looms when the iconic Strawberry villain Purple Pie Man unites with Care Bear nemesis No Heart. The Berries and the Care Bears must team up to save both of their worlds and the wonderful new friends they’ve made.
The Care Bear Berry Switch is about more than resurrecting iconic children’s media; the special is a love letter to each brand’s over 40-year-long legacy. The special combines nostalgic 1980s animation design with the best moments from both brands in a production that pays homage to its past but looks towards the future. With legendary moments like “The Care Bear Stare” and classic villains kids loved to hate, the special celebrates the joy and magic that make these brands great. At the same time, WildBrain and Cloudco are creating a contemporary production that a new generation can enjoy in years to come.
The Strawberry Shortcake x Care Bears project is being presented this week at the annual television trade show MIPCOM Cannes.
