The Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase (BICS) is going to a two day show in 2025. The event will be held once again at Brooklyn’s Industry City on April 26- 27, 2025, with two indoor floors and an outdoor courtyard.
“Due to BICS’ dramatic growth and community response, we’re happy to announce that it will become a two-day event next year,” said Aynsley Leonardis, BICS Event Director in a statement.
BICS will be in its fourth year and provides a lively showcase of local New York talents, as The Beat discovered in their outing there this year. The showcase started in 2022 with 50 tables but grew this year to more then 200 vendors in 2024 under the guidance of organizer St. Mark’s Comics, which is located in Industry city.
“We had 260 vendors across 200 tables for 2023, and had to turn people away,” said Mitch Cutler, co-owner of St. Mark’s Comics. A poll of vendors found more than 75% of respondents loved the idea of going to two days.
With its abundance of art schools and even a few comics publishers, New York is still a thriving city for comics and cartoonists. Between the NYCC gargantua, the more selective MoCCA (also held in the spring), and August’s FlameCon, there several shows, but there seems to be room for more – especially one focused on locals – who are often unable to get in to NYCC due to the demand for Artist Alley tables.
BICS organizers plan to include panels in 2025, and vendor applications will open on January 7th, with more details to be announced in the coming months.
